Valley named after Joe
#1
2nd outing of the year brought us down to Joe's valley over the weekend. quite the scenic area to say the least. very remote spot in a nag free zone ( no cell service, Bonus!)
water had a very cool blue tint to it. water temps were in the 53-54 degree range. launched around noon on Saturday . sunny and about 75 degrees. 6 hours of casting got us one tiger musky. 33 inches and fat. must be eating good! .....didnt see any action other than the one fish. pulled the boat and went to joes valley campground and setup camp. then headed to the shore for some bank tangling. we managed one mid teen trout on a night crawler. stayed up around the camp fire way too late and only manged to troll for a few hours on sunday morning before the rains hit and we headed home early . should note that the launch was closed by the campground due to low water levels in that bay. we marked the most fish on the humminbird by the damn in over 100 feet of water. i suspect thats where all the splake were hiding . cool place. well worth the drive

The great thing about joes valley is , even when the fishing is slow , the solitude and scenery make for a good time.
There is some good fishing to be had around the area also. At this time of the year (next time you go. ) Give the stream down the canyon a try. There are some good browns in there.

The key for Joe's Valley in the past during this time of year for splake was fishing shallow. This used to be a great time to fish for big splake with a dead minnow or cut bait from shore. I haven't done it for a few years, but I don't see why anything would have changed. We would throw out baits from shore and catch splake throughout the day but especially at night...

Anchovies...and chubs or minnnows. Big difference. I tried anchovies one year at fish lake through the ice....I never caught a splake on one. I will never use anchovies again for trout...
