I hit the berry with two buddies Saturday morning. We launched from the SC side about 6:45. We spent three hours trolling mostly rapallas and caught 17 mostly rainbows.
The next 2 hours we tried jigging a few spots. We found a few (7-ish) cutts all near the upper slot limit but none over.
The last couple hours I wanted to try for Kokes. I have been getting better at but I'm still figuring it out.
I found some on the sonar and we landed our first before I had both downriggers out. I thought it would be awesome.
But the next 90 minutes only yielded two more hook-ups... both lost at the boat.
We did land two more cuts and another bow while targeting.
Reeled up and were done just after noon. 27-ish is a pretty average trip... and I thought pretty good given how crowded it was.

How soft are your rods and what speed were you at for kokes? I ask because I replaced my koke rods this year with a softer tip/lighter action rod and lowered my speed, last trip to the gorge I didn't lose a single fish at the back of the boat, prior to that I lost about 1 out of 3 and was not very happy.

One thing that has improved my catch rates in most waters is doing lots of turns - this causes the inside rod to slow and the outside rods to speed up. Turns can be more than 'S' turns - try some big sweeping turns and of course varying your speed during the turns sometimes causes them to strike.
Sometime over deep water when you can see fish on the finder and than aren't finding the way to your lure - stop for a few moments and then take off again - sometimes you can pickup a fish or two that way.
Also try depths below and above the fish you see on the finder - sometime the more active fish are not hang'in with the school.

Thanks for the tips!
The fish I lost was due to a tangle with a trolling rod because we were turning. I have some planer boards I should have had on the trolling poles. Next time I will.
I did notice we caught both fish on the inside rod while turning... so we probably do need to slow down generally. I like the stop and go idea.
I'm hitting FG for the week of the 4th... I hope to get some more confidence up there.
Thanks again
