Hello Fellow BFT'ers
I'm taking a group of girls that are at the camp shalom fishing this week at Electric lake. Its been some time since I have fished it and would appreciate any tips to get the girls a fish or two.
Thanks

If they are willing to listen to your instructions then you can try a gold/red Jake's, caught a few nice cuts and tigers in there on that lure in the past. If they can't cast then just put out a bobber with a worm for them to sit with.

I fish Electric quite often, though not from shore. I do know the minnows are thick and if you can get a few use them. The shoreline beyond the boat ramp is good fishing for Tigers and Cutthroats using standard Lures and Baits.
Good Luck

Not that I recall, but there is an ATV place that sells fishing licenses and I may have seen bait there as well.

One option is to tie on really small (size 14 to 16 would be just about right) hooks, with a split shot and a small piece of worm on the hook. Let the girls catch the minnows to be used for bait. They would have fun catching them and then they could use them (dead, of course) to catch larger fish.

I like that idea. These girls will want to catch any fish -not picky. Do you find these minnows anywhere along the shore.?
Thanks

You should be able to find them almost everywhere along the shore. You should only need to get out about 5 to 10' from the shore, at the most.

Sure can.
Arrived at the lake at 8:00 am (north end) and it was already pretty crowded with campers and 4th of July goers. I was met with 22 young women and 6 leaders eager to catch fish so we drove past the boat launch all the way to the end of the road where we had some room to spread out. I rigged up some poles with minnows and a few with #14 hooks for some to catch shiners. Long story short the minnow catching proved to be a big hit with the girls as it was non stop action. The other poles caught 2 -16" cutts. One on a night crawler below a bubble and the other on the bottom with a minnow. The highlight of the morning was a mature black bear appeared on the other side of the lake (east) and worked his way down to the lake shore-entered the water and swam towards us. He ended up about 150 yards downstream at his exit point but the girls thought that was the coolest thing ever. Most had never seen a black bear in the wild. Overall I was happy with the fishing considering the circumstances. Thanks everyone especially Kent for your help and suggestions. I may have converted a couple girls to the fishing world.

I'm glad it worked out for you and that my suggestions helped. Hopefully, I get some good karma, because I am headed there myself in the morning.
