New to the state of Utah with many ?
#1
I have many questions pertaining to fishing in Utah and need any advice you folks can offer.

My main question is what kind of waders should I purchase keeping in mind that money is very tight right now. I float tube when ever I can or fish from the banks. I do have an old pair of non insulated waders without boots.

When fishing in your larger lakes what size fishing line works best for you?

I am a catch and release guy until my wife wants me to bring home some fish, is that the norm up here?

I purchased a nice fly rod and reel on KSL but I look like Elmer Fud in a wind storm, I see that some of the stores offer free lessons. Has anyone gone to them and what did you think about it?

I am sure I will be needing more advise as time goes on but this should be a good start.
Thank all of you

Welcome to BFT and Utah. For waders I have two. One breathable used on lower lakes and in Sumer. Neoprene for colder weather and higher elevation lakes. For line on a basic spinning rig I usually go 8 lb test. Any thing considered ultralight I go 4 to 6 lb test.

Rusty,
I got a pair of the cabelas blue stream breathable waders, when I started, I loved them... They were cheap and worked perfect for everything, if you need more warmth, just wear some fleece under them you'll be fine... I upgraded to their heavier duty wader now, but that's cause I'm rough on them so I wanted double layers to keep from having leaks... I used to go to light line, but got tired of replacing my mono twice a year, so now I use a braid line and tip it with whatever leader I need for what I'm fishing for... it's working pretty well for me... Good luck and as you ask questions I'm sure you'll get more answers than you can apply... good to have you here with us... Later J

welcome to Utah. I have a pair of cabelas non breathable waders that are on their 5th year and I love them. as far as line goes I like the 6lb nanofil. casts like a dream and never had any problems with it. for the leader I use 6lb p-line. Use this set up for years and love it.
