I haven't fished it yet this year but I called Blue Springs lodge down there on Saturday and the fellow I talked to said people had been on the ice for a week already.

A friend and I hit Panguitch today. We parked the car at 0800 and were fishing about 815. We found about 5" of clear solid ice by the outlet. No snow on the ice. the surface was slick and walking with ice spikes or cleats is recommended. I say that, because I didn't have any, and wish I did.

The two of us stayed until 3 PM. Fishing was good first in the morning, and almost dead after noon. We caught rainbows and cutts, no tigers this trip. Our total was probably right around 30. All were released. We caught fish on the usual jigs, tipped with either wax worms, meal worms, or night crawlers (small chunk). It didn't seem to matter a whole lot what we tipped with.

Fish were on the bottom (we stayed put all day where we first drilled our holes at 22 ft depth) and suspended at times around 15 ft.

Temp was about 17 degrees when we arrived, and was in the low 30's when we left. There was lots of cracking and popping of the ice cap today. There is still a large portion of open water out in the main lake. I am sure the slower fishing and the movements of the ice are a result of the open water. It was plenty safe.... not trying to discourage anybody.....

Here are a few pics.
