I spoke with the lodge today. They said harbors iced but no ice on Main lake and they now don't expect until end of first of year.

Now? Did they change at some point? I thought it's always been the end of the year. That's it. I'm calling this morning to see if it froze yet. It's been darned cold the last few nights. [cool] [signature]

I guess it's not a huge change but when I originally called and posted they were telling me by Christmas would be ice. Now they are saying plan for the first week or two in January. Seems like everyone is anxious so hopefully starts icing soon.

very rarely is the whole lake capped prior to Christmas.
nearly every year, there is fishable ice between Christmas and New Year's. A very safe, and good, answer for the lodge to give people is "first week or two in January". The last number of years, New Year's weekend has been a risky bet for ice. "Climate Change" or any other term you want to give it -- Fish Lake should be enough evidence for anyone to understand that something has changed. Is it a long-term (1,000's of years) change? Or just a blip in our 100 years of observation? No idea. But I know that we didn't worry about ice by New Year's 20 years ago. It will freeze. Until then, let's all keep calling the DWR Southern Region Office and ask them if it's frozen yet. that helps. [ ![]() [signature]
