From the reports I have been reading, I thought SC might have frozen over. Arrived at the parking lot off of Hwy 40 at 7:00 a.m. The air temp was 19 below. Loaded up my ATV and headed for the Soldier Creek marina. Found open water at the bottom of the boat ramp - see attached photo. What a bummer!
The first photo is looking down the boat ramp.
The second photo is looking NE of the boat ramp.
Due to the fog, I could not see very far into the reservoir.
I drove back up the road and tried to access the reservoir by the cabins on that bay immediately north of the marina. I punched several holes through the ice & found the ice to be 3 to 4 inches thick approximately 20 yds off shore and about 200 yds down the eastern bank. Not enough ice for me so I called it a day & went home.
While driving home, I noticed about 6 - 8 vehicles at the ladders, do to the fog I could only see one tent on the ice. There were many vehicles & tents on Chicken Creek East.
I believe it will be a couple of weeks before I can access my favorite fishing holes at SC.
