Pretty Good Morning - Hyrum Swimbeach
#1
12/29 Update - Went back this morning and only managed a couple small trout. Bad fishing karma for not disclosing the location on the original post. All bass were caught in 8 to 15 FOW, approx 300 yards east of the parking lot, straight out from the beach house.

Larry

When I went to bed I planned on another day at Mantua. When I woke up, I changed my mind. Was able to locate a pretty fair honey hole with some hungry bass. Besides the ones in the pictures, I caught a couple more that went 15 inches or so. Never did get any little ones. I can't take credit for the fish. Credit belongs to TD's creation.

Very nice Bass.
Pat's jig are fish candy for sure. Been using one since my first ice trip and haven't found a reason to change it up.

Don't need any freebies, the price is more than fair... However, I may have to stock up again, been losing a few, that 3 lb leaders aren't quite strong enough, especially when you are fishing shallow and have a jaw jacker on your second line.. Some day I need to drop by the tackle a torium and restock and get some tips on where to find a white bass through the ice... thanks for the selection you picked out, been doing well so far... [#0000FF]Don't know why you think you need 3# leader. I used to use the thin stuff too. But I seldom go below a good quality 6#. And I know guys who use 10 or 12# and catch as many as anybody else.

You would be welcome to stop by whenever you get down this way.

White bass? Really tough on Utah Lake these days. Low water has dropped the water level in the harbors down to the mud. No fish in the harbors, where it is usually gangbusters for white bass at first ice. Second, the white bass population is down. But for the next week or two there will still be a few to be caught off the first spring at Lincoln Beach. Might have a better chance at Bountiful Pond or Holmes Creek.

Hey Pat I was just trying to get limp line that hung straight, but I've been paying the price with lost tackle so I'll probably switch to something a little tougher.

May not be the year for me to try the white bass so maybe I'll put that off. I was trying to check off as many species as I could on the contest this winter, but I don't have to get that one I've got quite a few panfish so far.

Anyway thanks for the tips. Later J

Pretty sure Pat (TubeDude) will see your post and give you directions to his secret bat cave tubatorium. Pat is a master craftsman at making all kinds of tackle and I don't think he minds selling it to BFT members. He may even send it by mail if you ask nicely. Or there has been some talk of organizing a BFT tackle swap after the new year sometime. JJannie is possibly going to try and organize that. If so we hope Pat will bring a bunch of gear to sell or trade there. Pat said he was giving up ice fishing this winter so hopefully he is busy making tackle in his workshop. The hard part will be deciding which ones you want they are all nice stuff you can't find anywhere else. Years of fishing has taught him well what the fish like and he's quite the artist on the hand painted lures. My problem is lacking the skill to fish them all correctly. Anyway good luck with it. J
