Snakehead Fingerlings Found In Potomac River System

RICHMOND, VA—The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) announced last week that a juvenile northern snakehead was collected from Dogue Creek in Fairfax County-the first fingerling snakehead ever found in the river.

Biologists say the 3-inch fingerling is likely the result of a mid-summer spawn, which suggests that a northern snakehead population is now established in the Potomac River system.
