Evacuate! - What do you Save?
#22
[unsure]We frequently had to help evacuate our reletives from the Gulf coast, staying ahead of an in-coming Hurricane.

It was campy for a few days. The 'har'cun' would pass and we'd haul all the stuff back down to the gulf.

RITA, taught us several lessons.
Rita made a hard right turn in the night and caught all the people around Cameron LA by surprise.
They had no time to call the family down to load up. They had to git in the car and go.
They lost everthing!

Then (I'll shorten this tale) the learning began.
How do you start over. Worse yet when you have Four Adults and three small kids living in a Travel trailer, the atmosphere can get a bit testy.
We learned that the Girls get the bathroom, the boys go outside!
Dont step on anything! It might be part of someone sleeping on the floor.
You just swallow hard and keep your temper! About everything!
Coleman stoves and lanterns came in handy. We made tables and chairs out of trashed lumber and downed trees so we could have an outside eating area large enough that we could all have a seat and part of a table to set a plate on.

One experience like that will cause a person to empithize with anybody who's been victimized by a weather anomoly.

I'm glad you came through OK.
