shimano all the way for me especially on spinning reels and rods abu makes some good rod and reels too but shimano makes the best as for rods i do like st croix but i think action and what your using it for matters more than the brand also once you have found a rod you like find the reviews on it and see what others are saying im hard on gear and shimano's just last the longest for me
