[#0000FF]I had heard that there were large numbers of large fish dying and being discarded as water levels dropped. Sam Braegger at the Utah Lake Commission checked into this for me and here is his reply:

I looked into this, and it doesn't seem to carry any weight. As with any dredging project, there will be an impact on the fish. However, all the entities involved worked to save any endangered June Sucker fish that were at risk, as well as other desirable species such as white bass. There may have been some carp that died, probably pike (which they can't save anyway because its illegal), etc. I've been assured that the effects on the fishery were as minimal as possible.

I saw a truck towing some kind of conveyor setup with some nets leave the park last week, so I'm pretty sure they did something with the fish that were in the harbor. I would have liked to go in there and take advantage of the situation while that was going on. I wish it was warm enough to finish fixing my boat so I could swing by for a closer look.

[#0000FF]That may have been some of the Loy's carp seining equipment. I think they store it at the Provo Harbor in the off season and are probably getting ready to start open water seining again.

Curious what you would have liked to have done? I doubt the fish would be interested in biting in the shallow muddy water.

Obviously I'd have to jump in the mud and wrestle any big ones out of there by hand. Sounds like a party to me.

They've been digging for the last 4 days. Sure wish we could check on the progress. The video on their Facebook page showed 3 shovels digging away on Monday.

Camera is working again. If they ever fix the programming on this site so that it works with all browsers I would post a link.
